A direct comparison of veining character, etch resistance, and long-term cost between the two most requested stones in luxury kitchens.
These two stones sit at the top of nearly every client wish list, and they behave nothing alike. Choosing between them is a question of tolerance for patina, not a question of quality.
Trade names are unregulated. Material sold as Taj Mahal quartzite is sometimes dolomitic marble. Ask for a scratch test on the actual slab before purchase.
Cost per square foot lands within roughly ten percent of one another. The real economic difference appears at year five, when a marble installation may want refinishing and the quartzite will not.
Alistair has spent over 22 years sourcing exotic natural stone slabs directly from quarries in Carrara, Verona, and Espirito Santo. As Chief Stone Specialist he oversees stone procurement, CNC fabrication, and installation for premier estates nationwide.
