Balancing structural cold stone with warm handcrafted hardwood elements to build serene, cohesive luxury environments.
The most common failure in a luxury material palette is not bad taste. It is two beautiful materials fighting for the same role in a room.
One material leads, one supports, one recedes. A dramatic bookmatched island leads; quiet oak cabinetry supports; a honed limestone floor recedes. Reverse any two of those and the room becomes noisy regardless of how fine each element is.
Where stone meets wood, resolve the junction deliberately: a reveal, a metal inlay, or a flush transition with a consistent shadow line. Undefined transitions are where otherwise excellent installations look unresolved.
Lay every finish sample on the floor of the actual room, at the actual scale, under the actual lighting, before signing off. Sample boards lie about proportion.
Helena directs the Haven design studio, translating architectural drawings into material palettes. Her work pairs quarried stone with hand-finished hardwood across residences in New York, Aspen, and the Hamptons.
